This Scottish Clay Target Association Limited (SCTA) "Health and Safety Policy" document is issued only for the guidance of affiliated Grounds and Members with a view to assisting and encouraging the maintenance of a safe clay target shooting environment. It must not be considered as a definitive interpretation of the "Health and Safety" legislation.

It is specifically incumbent on every Affiliated Ground and Member involved in the management of any clay target shooting event to be fully aware of the legislation as it applies in their particular circumstance.  Grounds and Members must seek the necessary professional advice and the SCTA assumes no responsibility in this regard.

CLUB SAFETY POLICY STATEMENT

 

Suggested DRAF for Club and Shooting Ground use.

GENERAL

1                   This written statement will be on public display and the attention of all shooters, spectators, trappers and scorers drawn to it.

2                   A named SCTA trained Safety Officer will be appointed at each shoot. This person will be responsible for the safe layout of all traps and stands

3                   Referees Trappers and Scorers are required to halt trapping and shooting if a dangerous situation arises and not to resume until clearance is given by the Safety Officer.

4                   The shoot organisers will maintain a portable “First Aid” box in the clubhouse and is clearly signed.

5                   The organisers will maintain “Public” and “Employers” “Liability Insurance”

6                   All competitors will adhere to the regulations covering all safety equipment.


TRAPS

7                   No traps will be set in a position from which a trapper can be visible from any shooter standing at a firing mark.

8                   All Trap houses must be capable of withstanding a direct double discharge at point blank range without penetration. The traphouse will be equipped with a red flag in order that the trapper can indicate a “Cease Fire”

9                   All Trappers will be individually shown the SAFE operation of all models of trap they may be expected to operate. Particularly un-cocking, loading and releasing

10                All Trappers will be issued with Eye and Ear Protection, Gloves, No person without training and authority from the ground administrators may approach a “Stacking” “Automatic” “Carousel “Trap. All trappers must be supplied with a red flag.

11                All Guns will be required to be “broken” and unloaded at all times except when actually being used to shoot the clay targets. Semi auto&#x92s will be sleeved or “Flagged” when not in use.


SHOOTERS

12                No Guns should be brought into the club house

13                 When a gun is left in a vehicle it should be empty, out of site and the vehicle locked.


PUBLIC

14                A clearly defined “Safety Zone” will be laid out to allow spectators and shooters safe passage between all shooting marks and to allow safe observation of shooting.

15                All traps will be set to ensure that no part of broken clays can fall into the “Safety Zone”

16                Hearing and Eye Protection is available at the clubhouse for spectators and public.


SHOOTING POSITIONS ETC.

17                All shooting cages will be constructed so that the gun cannot point in any direction other than that required to safely shoot the target.

18                All firing position will have a stable base from which the competitor will shoot.
