DTL - A message from Norrie

Hi lads and Lassies – HO HO HO – 3 days to go.

Hope you are all well as we approach Christmas reflecting the end of another tough year. I would like to start this Christmas message by offering a big well done to all the smaller grounds across the country. The 50 bird turkey shoots and table shoots have been very well attended and looks like everybody enjoyed their shooting. I was at Strathyre on  19th Dec  where 33 hardy souls braved a chilly day and believe there was also 35 guns at Armadale for their Christmas shoot – Great stuff .

These are difficult times as once again we are bombarded on Covid news with possible restrictions coming in the next few days. This ongoing situation may scupper the following message from the Development Team. However, we must prepare at least for what we wish to promote early in the new year. The reason for putting a Development Team together was to offer shooters the opportunity to improve their skills no matter of experience. Including myself, currently we have eleven voluntary souls who willingly donated their services in offering training sessions and advice. These guys have a vast amount of knowledge and expertise gathered over many shooting years. They are here to help so please back this venture.

Questions and Answers

Q - Who is this available to? A - Any shooter who feels they need help from novice to the most experienced, it is all about improving.

Q – What does it cost? A - The Development volunteers are giving up their time without charge, you will have to pay for Clays if you wish to shoot on the day.

Q – Can we bring anyone who are interested but never shot? A – Absolutely you can especially if they are family members or close friends.

Q – So it is not just for those shooters wishing to go for the team? A – No this is for anybody however there will be emphasis towards shooters wishing to go for the team as the season progresses.

There will be three venues available for meeting members of the Development team and even if there is not a shot fired it would be great to hear from you guys. Let’s meet for a general chat about the coming season, if you wish to shoot then do so. Glenmoriston do have a 50 bird on the date, so fill yer boots.

The date for this first shooter’s development session is the weekend over Saturday February 19th , 2022.

  • The North Meet – Glenmoriston Shooting Ground
  • The West Meet – North Ayrshire
  • The East and South Meet – Auchterhouse

As stated above this all depends on Covid guidelines which may be imposed by the Scottish Govt . There was a great deal of emotion after the H.I. with the request for assistance, this is the start. Information on contacting grounds above and or development team members will be confirmed mid-January. If our sport is to progress amidst the challenges going forward all of us must pull in the same direction and look to the future now.

Despite all that is around to worry over right now may we wish you all, the BEST CHRISTMAS POSSIBLE for you and your families. If you can contact friends in our fraternity who may find this time of year hard having suffered the loss of a loved one through 2021, please try and do so. Take care stay safe and look forward to seeing you in 2022 .

This message will be also be posted on the DTL Group on Facebook which I understand has almost 200 members. If you wish to get on this please ask one of the members to invite you on. Just ask the guys you shoot with as one of them will be here.

All the best for Christmas and New Year - Norrie and Linda.
